West Side Story 50th Anniversary
The 10-time Oscar-winning film West Side Story returns to the silver screen in a special engagement event. The 1961 film starred Natalie Wood and Rita Moreno. The West Side Story 50th Anniversary Event opens with a new production featuring a discussion with producer Walter Mirisch, Oscar-winning actor George Chakiris (who played Bernardo) and Natalie Woods’ voice double, Marni Nixon.
My Week with Marilyn
In 1956, a young Oxford student inspired by the film industry meets Marilyn Monroe on the set of a movie. His enchantment with the star then inspires his diary to be published. In the new film My Week with Marilyn, the two share one idyllic week together in England, the one week missing from the diary.
Trigger
Mixed reviews will “trigger” the success — or the demise — of the Canadian film Trigger. Considered a talkathon, two once-best friends and bandmates reconnect after a decade to air out their dirty laundry — basically drugs and alcohol dependencies. There are hints of lesbian eroticism in the film, but apparently it’s just about a couple of junkies babbling ... but you be the judge.
The Iron Lady
One of the greatest gay icons and most sought-after actresses, Meryl Streep, returns to the silver screen in what is likely yet another Oscar-winning performance. In The Iron Lady, Streep walks in the shoes of England’s first female prime minister. One of the 20th century’s most famous and influential women, Margaret Thatcher came from nowhere to smash through barriers of gender and class to be heard in a male-dominated world. Lesbian director Phyllida Lloyd ... well, directs.
